Our Marmoleum Acoustic floors reduce impact sound by 14 dB (ISO 717-2). Marmoleum Acoustic is a twinlayer floor covering with a build-up from 2 mm Marmoleum and a 2 mm Corkment backing.

Marmoleum Decibel

Marmoleum Decibel is Forbo’s sustainable acoustic linoleum flooring solution that features a polyolefin underlay that provides a high acoustic performance of 19 dB (measured in accordance with EN ISO 717-2). Marmoleum Decibel offers effective noise reduction, is suitable for underfloor heating and allows for easy installation.

Marmoleum Decibel is climate positive from cradle to gate. Supported by internationally recognised health and sustainability labels, it contributes seamlessly to leading building standards such as LEED, BREEAM, and WELL.

The textures and colours are carefully curated to support a wide range of spaces, from education and offices to public buildings. The contemporary palette features 28 items from Forbo’s different Marmoleum structures, including Cocoa and Striato.

A Corkment underlay can be used in combination with regular Marmoleum to achieve an impact sound reduction of 14dB. First the Corkment should be installed - with the jute side up - at right angles to the same direction as that of the Marmoleum sheet.

Forbo Marmoleum Acoustic reduces impact sound by 14dB (measured in accordance with EN ISO 717-2). It is a twinlayer linoleum built up from 2 mm Marmoleum and a 2 mm Corkment backing. Marmoleum Acoustic is currently available in 6 colours from the Marmoleum Marbled collection.

Marmoleum Decibel
Marmoleum Decibel provides an impact sound reduction of 19 dB (measured in accordance with EN ISO 717-2). It is 2.5 mm Marmoleum laminated onto a 1 mm layer of polyolefine foam. Marmoleum Decibel is available in 28 colours selected from our compact Marmoleum ranges, unique Marmoleum structures like Cocoa and Striato.

Because sound travels easily through floor structures, installing the right acoustic flooring is essential for improving indoor comfort.

The best way to reduce sound is at the source. That’s why acoustic floors are key when it comes to reducing noise in buildings.

Impact sound reduction, how does it work?
Impact sound generated in a room easily travels through the floor into the rooms below. To assess the acoustic performance of a floor covering, impact noise is produced using a hammer machine on a concrete floor slab in an emission room. The resulting sound level (S1) is measured in the reception room below.

The floor covering is then installed on the concrete slab and the same test is repeated. The new sound level (S2) is recorded, and the impact sound reduction is calculated in accordance with EN ISO 717-2 as the difference, in decibels, between the two measurements.

The photosynthesis of the biobased materials used in Marmoleum provides CO₂ uptake that exceeds the CO₂ emissions caused by transportation and production processing. Therefore, Marmoleum is climate positive (or carbon negative) from cradle to gate.
