How do you ensure that gypsum-bonded levelling compounds dry optimaly?

Residual moisture content

‘Of course, the same old rules apply here,’ says René van der Jagt. ‘In other words, ventilate well, otherwise the moisture will come back and always measure the residual moisture content of the floor before you start. Depending on the type of floor covering to be installed and the type and thickness of the anhydrite floor, the residual moisture percentage is determined. Usually the industry starts from 0.5%, but there are circumstances where it can start from 1.0%. Your technical sales adviser can assess this using a specific measuring method. If the residual moisture content is still too high, then to ensure good ventilation, place the material in the room on pallets, for example, so as to create airflow at the floor level.

Apply today, continue tomorrow

What I insist on above all is – stick to the correct mixing ratio. It’s specified on the packaging for good reason. If you stick to the low water factor and work under the right conditions, the following certainly applies – levelling today, gluing the floor covering tomorrow.

Distribute fluxes evenly

A misconception that I sometimes encounter is that floorers think that if they use more water, the flow properties improve. The opposite is actually true! Plus, if you use more water, your drying time will be longer and you don’t want that. The flow properties of 925 Europlan Alphy Direct and 920 Europlan Alphy are excellent. Important: mix the mortar well again after three minutes of setting. In this way, the fluxes and accelerators are distributed evenly and the flow and drying are optimal.

925 Europlan Alphy Direct improved

I also have good news, because we recently gave our 925 Europlan Alphy Direct a fantastic upgrade in which all its good features have been made even better. What I mean is that we changed the recipe, improving both the final strength and drying time. Because as a contractor, you want to continue working on your project as quickly as possible. Time is money.’
