In addition, Marmoleum flooring improves the environmental and well-being score in building rating schemes such as LEED, BREEAM and the Well building standard.

Eco and health labels & certification

In line with our sustainability strategy, we use various transparent certification systems from independent third parties worldwide to have our floor coverings regularly checked and evaluated.

This helps us focus on superior environmental performance and identify opportunities to improve and exceed market expectations. It is also a confirmation for our customers, as the labels prove that environmental experts are also convinced that our floor coverings are among the most sustainable and healthy on the market.

UL certified EPD

UL certified Environmental Product Declaration

At Forbo Flooring, we believe that an open, honest and transparent approach to demonstrating a sustainable attitude is the only way to show the credits we attribute to our products and processes.

An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) presents quantified environmental data for a product, based on information from a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This technique takes all the following aspects into account: environmental impact of raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, content of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil and water and waste generation.

An EPD is the outcome of the LCA, which is published in a third party verified report. With the EPD, the Marmoleum product shows its eco-friendliness with 100% transparency. The distinctive climate positive (from cradle to gate, without offsetting) nature of the Marmoleum product range is visible in the EPDs.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

We have been awarded the Nordic Swan Ecolabel (029) for our Marmoleum floor coverings.

A Nordic Ecolabelled floor covering:
• Has a high proportion of renewable and/or recycled materials
• Meets stringent requirements for chemicals harmful to health and the environment, such as no PVC or no phthalates
• Guarantees low emissions and a good indoor environment
• Has been manufactured energy efficiently
• Has good durability
• Carries a trustworthy, independent, third-party certification

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a type 1 eco label according to the standard ISO 14024. Hence, the criteria are product-specific and are based on a life cycle assessment.
Type 1 eco labels cover the entire life cycle and all relevant environmental aspects and have absolute requirements. All stages, from raw materials to production, use, disposal and recycling, are included in the assessment when requirements are set. In this way, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel reduces the overall environmental impact.

The Blue Angel

The Blue Angel

The Blue Angel has a clear focus when assessing the health effects of products used particularly in indoor spaces. We have been awarded The Blue Angel for our Marmoleum floor coverings.

Marmoleum compliance to Environmentally Friendly Elastic Floor Coverings (DE-UZ 120), means our floor coverings are low in emissions, have low pollutant content and no adverse impact on health in the living environment.

The Blue Angel for low-emission floor coverings may be awarded to products which beyond meeting all legal requirements:
- are manufactured by the use of environmentally less damaging substances and materials
- are safe and do not pose a health hazard to the living environment
- do not contain any hazardous substances that would seriously hamper recycling
- promote the replacement of primary materials with secondary materials during their production

Austrian Ecolabel for Products

Our Marmoleum floor coverings have been awarded the Österreichisches Umweltzeichen.

The Austrian Ecolabel for Products provides information on the environmental impact of consumer goods resulting from their production, usage and disposal and draws the attention of consumers to alternative environmentally friendly products.

A labelled product complies to a holistic evaluation on stringent criteria on eg. energy, toxicity, emissions, recycling, product longevity and repairability.

Our Marmoleum floor coverings are declared to be Red List Free.

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) has developed the red list of chemicals that may not be included in materials used in construction, due to health concerns. It meets the criteria of the Living Building Challenge® (LBC).

Declare® Red List Free means that each product ingredient is evaluated and reported by the manufacturer on 100 parts per million (ppm), with a chemical name, CAS number and percentage or percentage range.

USDA certified biobased

Our Marmoleum floor coverings are certified USDA 100% biobased floor coverings that outperform the US government's FAR sustainability and BioPreferred Designation requirements and exceed the greenhouse gas, waste reduction, life cycle assessment and biobased content guidelines of Executive Order 13693.
Thanks to this, Marmoleum qualifies for Mandatory Federal Purchasing (FP).

Indoor Air Comfort Gold

Our Marmoleum floors are Indoor Air Comfort Gold certified, which guarantees compliance with low product emission requirements. It is proof of our focus on quality and our contribution to a healthy indoor environment.

Compliance with Indoor Air Gold means compliance with VOC requirements on low emitting products of a large variety of national and international regulations, legislation and eco labels and environmental and health building standards, like: LEED, BREEAM, WELL, French VOC A+ and DGNB.

Health Product Declaration

Our Marmoleum floor coverings have dedicated Health Product Declarations (HPD), supported by the HPD Collaborative. The HPD provides a standard specification that is transparent, accurate, reliable and consistent for the disclosure of product content and associated human and environmental health information throughout the product supply chain.

The HPD Open Standard specification is harmonised with programs of International Living Future Institute, Cradle-to-Cradle Product Innovation Institute, Clean Production Action, BIFMA, LEED, WELL and a growing number of rating and certification standards in the building industry.
